Description

Duke NUS Scientists Discover Protein That Causes Aging A research team lead by Anissa A. Widjaja recently published in Nature that inhibiting interleukin-11 extends lifespan by nearly 25% in 75 weeks old mice (55 years of human equivalent age.) Team has discovered the age causing protein. Of course there are more proteins and mechanisms that contribute to aging, however, inflammation is central part of these processes. IL-11 with age start increasing in amount contributing to visceral fat accumulation, muscle wasting, and metabolic irregularities. Let's review the study together. I've seen publications suggesting that EPA and DHA inhibits IL-11 pathways and extends lifespan. I've heard dolphin researchers suggest that that C15 saturated fatty acid can also increase lifespan through other pathways. Can you discuss these ideas?

I'm going to increase my sardine intake. Luckily they're one of my favorite foods, and low on the food chain.

Interesting. I think there was a study in the last few years that showed an extension of lifespan for Omega-3s. This paper on Il-11 offers a plausible mechanism for the benefit shown with Omega-3.
