Hi Samantha, I'm a Family Nurse Practitioner (one 50+ yrs in practice..ie: one of the first). Three years ago I met a Mexican man who taught me more about medicine than I had ever learned in my practice. He was from rural Central Mexico and he believed in something called "hot- cold syndrome". At first it sounded a bit like Socrates/ Aristotle's thoughts on the humors (cold/asthenic hot/choleric etc)....I think I discounted most of what he said. However, what I couldn't discount was his amazing vitality. At 63 he could do the work of a 20 year old...and enjoy it. I gave up doctors about 5 years ago. I’d had a miscarriage and had to get an ultrasound and they found a “lump” so then had to refer me to a doctor in another town… they couldn’t give me an appointment till 6 months later, and there was no lump by then… but still paid $360 for the appointment! I was shocked. I’ve had Hashimoto’s disease (hence miscarriages) for 20 years and taken the medication off and on. Over that time realised the best thing for it is to not over schedule, even if it’s fun and social stuff. I was a people pleaser and had to start focusing on my self and my nervous system. Diet factors OF COURSE, but the main thing is going inward and working yourself out, relax. Let the symptoms pass with soft awareness. Easy to say! I’ve still got a way to go. 🎉
