Chinese 14nm Chips Beat NVIDIA 4nm Silicon - China AI Architecture Superior to USA Tech
US-China AI Race: Architectural Disruption Can Override Process Node Dominance
Examine how China might leapfrog US technological dominance by redesigning AI architecture, potentially bypassing reliance on shrinking silicon process nodes. Learn why investment lock-in makes US legacy tech vulnerable to foundational redesigns.
Short Summary
- The assumption that winning the AI arms race grants world control is flawed and ignores China's scale advantage.
- China claims architectural innovations, like 3D bonding of memory and logic, can make older 14nm fabrication compete with leading 4nm chips.
- This forced rethinking of fundamental architecture, driven by external pressure, risks leapfrogging strategies used by legacy industries.
This segment focuses on structural inertia in technology development and explores the strategic risk posed by China potentially bypassing established hardware pathways through aggressive architectural innovation. Understanding this potential fracture is crucial for anticipating future technological leadership.

When Biden restricted the sales of semiconductor to China, China started putting a lot of money into R&D and now China is able to produce 7nm chips in mass production despite restrictions. China was happily buying US chips prior to that. The US trying to contain China actually fuel its innovations in order to achieve self reliance. The US's strategies are backfiring.
'Necessity is the mother of invention'
Yeah but the Chinese can't beat us at bloatware
What I love about this whole thing is that if these claims prove true, older nodes able to perform similarly to newer ones through clever designs etc.. How far ahead will China be almost instantly once they can apply these same clever designs to more advanced nodes once they get EUV lithography sorted out.
The West does more and is better at propaganda than China.
Huawei trouncing the Americans😂😂😂
We don't know wether it is true or not, but we do know that we continue to underestimate China frequently to our detriment. Who is leading in shipbuilding, 6g communication, solar, EV, Nuclear, power generation, rare metals, infrastructure development, high speed rail, active pharmaceutical ingredients, aluminum and steel production. Do you see the picture, is it coming into focus.
For proof that Americans know absolutely nothing about CPU architecture remember they were claiming Russia was pulling chips out dishwashers to put into missiles.
Just to clarify, Nvidia is changing its architecture from a monolithic to a chiplet design in its Rubin architecture, expected in 2026. This design will use HBM (HBM4?) memory along with advanced and potentially optical interconnects. This is similar to Huawei's roadmap of using chiplets, optical interconnects, and HBM for the Ascend 950 series and beyond, expected in 2026. To make this happen in the near future, China will eventually have to achieve EUV lithography, master advanced packaging to integrate optical interconnects and HBM, and mass produce HBM (high bandwidth memory) though it may take time to match SK Hynix. Will China achieve this? Yes. Once it does, it will be able to mass produce custom AI ASICs utilizing chiplets on a scale and at a cost that would challenge TSMC.
