Description

Is the market rally running out of steam? On Trader Talk, veteran market technician Mark Newton of Fundstrat joins Kenny Polcari to dissect what drives the S&P 500 (^GSPC). Newton explains why the equal-weight index tells a different story, how seasonal trends could trigger a short-term pullback, and what sectors may quietly lead the next leg higher. They dive into momentum, sentiment, and why inflation fears could fade fast if oil (CL=F, BZ=F) keeps sliding. Here's my summer: Mark Newton of Fundstrat suggests the S&P 500’s recent rally may face short-term choppiness in Q4, though he remains optimistic for the market’s longer-term trend given persistent leadership from tech and recovering sectors like healthcare and industrials. Newton notes that strong tech, resilient sentiment, seasonality, and declining oil prices support equities, but warns investors to watch for breath divergences and broad market participation before expecting significant new highs or a correction. The current environment, he says, favors stock picking over passive investing, and anticipation of Fed rate cuts and sustained AI-driven growth remain key tailwinds for the market.

Can we please get a "recorded on" date for these videos? A few days can change the entire landscape. Thanks!

This interview sounded like it happened sometime last week (prob Oct 6), since at the 5:33 mark, it was referencing the Pfizer deal (Sept 30) as last week, and at the 11:48 mark, he mentioned the OpenAI ad AMD deal as this morning (Oct 6). They then go on and discuss a pull-back of 3%-5% would happen (at 13:55 mark). If that's the case, that was last week Friday, Oct 10th where the NASDAQ was down -3.6% and SP500 down -2.7%.

We had 19% pull back from S&P back in April. We need another pull back?

If Mark Newton is laying out this as a crossroads between pullback or breakout, I’m leaning toward a pause first markets rarely just keep ripping.
