I have to say that Doctorow has been proven right in regards to Putin's hesitation to respond strongly has emboldened the extremists into dangerous provocations.

We never found out the extent of damage from the first Oreshnik - Ukraine and the West hiding that information should provide a clue.

Underground NG storage is not what many people imagine. The closest way to describe it would be an artificial gas field. It is a network of wells, gas turbines, water pumps, pipelines (both gas and water) and corresponding valves. The surface infrastructure is the easiest to destroy, but it is wide spread and relatively easy to restore. The reservoir itself (a massive of porous rock) can be pretty deep (say, 2 km down) and very much indestructible. The appropriate structure that Oreshnik likely targeted was the system of wells. If the attack were successful it would significantly reduce the rates at which NG could be pumped down or recovered from the storage, seriously affecting its factual capacity: it is still there and it is still huge, but only have a cocktail straw for accessing it. It would take a long time and lots of money to solve that!

Europe's, sorry I mean Starmer's Merz's and Macron's conceited arrogance has left Europe with no means of backing off. Europe's position from the very beginning has been based on bluster - not strength. People would be shocked at how poorly provisioned our military actually is. It's embarrassing and deadly serious.
