Description

My other channel, Great Books Explained here - https://www.youtube.com/@greatbooksexplained371 Please consider supporting this channel on Patreon (and getting exclusive content), thanks! https://www.patreon.com/user?u=53686503 or if you prefer a one-off donation - https://paypal.me/GreatArtExplained?country.x=GB&locale.x=en_GB Alternatively, every video has a "thanks" button under it- I appreciate it! Rome is the birthplace of Baroque, the highly ornate and elaborate style of architecture, art and design that flourished in Europe in the 17th and first half of the 18th century. Unlike the Renaissance, which was all about control and perfect balance, the Baroque era was famous for its dramatic flair and sense of movement. In this episode, Great Cities Explained goes outside the galleries and museums, and inside three Baroque churches that still house works by Caravaggio, Pozzo and Bernini today…. and cost nothing to visit. Do you think Caravaggio's models ever got stopped in the streets like "hey has anyone ever told you that you look just like Saint Matthew"?. Or maybe the parents of some of the younger models were super proud and dragged everyone to the church to see their kid on the wall.
