Minor point - his death to Jamis isn't a symbolic death, it's him actually dying. Paul can't see the definite future, he can see possible futures - him dying in the duel is one possible future, which he obviously hopes to avoid
8:50 whilst you can take Paul's visions of his death as metaphor, it's also worth noting that his visions are sometimes seeing different versions of the future.
There are two key scenes in the book that I'm gobsmacked were left out of the film: 1) the big dinner scene (which would have been a great way to introduce & explain all the various factions) & 2) Duncan's drunked rant towards Jessica followed by her confrontation with Thufir Hawat (which would have added great tension about how the move to Arrakis affected the House, as well as shown a Bene Gesserit & a Mentat going tete-a-tete) These would've added maybe only 10 min or so to the runtime. I think Dune actually suffers from being too short. We don't "luxuriate" in Arrakis after the move & the way it's edited makes it seem like the Harkonnens attacked the same day the Atreides arrival. There's really no concept of time passing for the viewer.
I think Villeneuve waiting to get more experience in director other sci-fi movies like Arrival and Blade Runner 2049, before to start on Dune shows how much respect he had for the source material as he wanted to make sure he made the best film possible to honor it. The gulf between having an experienced director working on Dune , compared to some of the recent MCU movies that had very inexperienced directors is very telling.
Pretty sure that is wasn’t Spice use that allowed Jessica (or other Bene Gesserits) to choose the gender of their children. Rather it was done through their training of body control.
Many of the BG abilities are not derived from Spice, including the voice and their control of their body. They can realize nearly complete control of their bodies through a practice called Para Bindu. This is demonstrated by Jessica training Paul before they left Calladan.
Really looking forward to Dune part 2, I hope it will be as epic as the trailer promises. I think Denis Villeneuve will not dissapoint.

Literally minutes ago saw that Dune 2 is coming 3/1 and need to watch the first again. Your timing is impeccable old chap
In Dune 2020, the scene where the kris knife is presented to Jessica, there is the guard in the room that she tells to stand down, yet in the book it is made clear in this scene, that if anyone other than a fremen sees the knife, they must either be killed or have a purification ritual, and that the knife must shed blood before being sheathed. In the book, Jessica goes to stick Mapes to draw blood, but her training catches signs telling her that the knife is likely poisoned, since the tooth nerve creates a hollow that allows poison to easily be secreted, and at the last moment cuts her with the edge, thus adding more and more to the legends for Mapes, thus her report on Jessica is the best it could be.
