Set during 1980 it's a game of life and death with a man who finds himself in too deep. Just something about it sticks with you forever and there's a lot of things going on deep below the surface. Throughout this video I want to dive into the film and discuss why I think it's a stone cold classic. I think once we're through you'll agree with me too as there's so many things going on in the movie. Now upon starting it up I was instantly reminded about one of the cool things that the film does. That is that there's next to no music in the film. - Well...well except that bit...other than that though the soundtracks stripped away which gives the movie an atmosphere and intensity to it. It of course also helps ground it in reality as none of us walk through life with the man of steel soundtrack blasting in our ears. Well unless you're Patrick Bateman.

I definitely think he killed Carla Jean, because he's DRIVING HER CAR after checking his boots as well. I don't think she just said " here, take my car!" 😂 He had not only swapped so many vehicles in the movie, and had no problem killing their owners, I'm sure he killed her.

I was a projectionist when this film came out. After building the films for the releases each week (film was shipped on multiple small reels that were spliced together to make the complete movie), personnel from the theatre would screen each film I built to make sure there weren't any issues with them (framing issues, backward reels, damaged film, audio issues, etc). We would do this all on Thursday night after the theatre closed for business (typically 1-2am). They were late nights for sure, but It was cool to see some movies before they were released (this was before Thursday releases became commonplace). Every now and again, I'd wind up watching a movie I knew nothing about and one of those films was No Country for Old Men. Went in with no expectation and came out of the auditorium amazed with how much I loved this movie. It really struck a chord with me and is still one of my favorite movies. I wound up taking two groups of friends to go see it the next week, and to this day, I still wind up watching almost once a year without trying. Thanks for the detailed breakdown of this film. I thoroughly enjoyed learning more about it and can appreciate it even more now!
