The stupidest thing the military did was not put guns on the F-4 to begin with. Of course they eventually went to the gun pod.

I was onboard Constellation during the ‘71-‘72 cruise in A7E squadron VA147. I worked the night shift and slept during the day. One of the pilots had a tape recording of the action that day, and it was intense. This show is a great depiction of what happened that day. Fly Navy.

I remember after school watching this and modern marvels and tales of the gun. Just about everyday until my parents picked me up from my grandparents. When history channel was truly great!

As a kid, I loved the F-4s. Our house was about a mile away from the Air Natl Guard base in Fresno. When they were training the sound was deafening. They were even allowed to break the sound barrier at that time. The sonic booms always rattled the windows. My dad always called it the sound of freedom.

I can't imagine the physical ability to fly those jets. I left VN in 1970. Huey Door Gunner/Crew Chief. All these guys are true heroes.

I was there in 1972, aboard the USS Coral Sea (CVA-43) with Marine All Weather Attack Squadron 224. One of my friends was shot down & killed on 3 May 1972. While all that action was happening, our pilots (A-6) mined Haiphong harbor. Cheers from an old Marine sergeant/Vietnam vet in eastern TN
