New Artifacts on Oak Island's Lot 5 Challenge Historical Timeline

Uncover the meaning behind a newly found 18th-century coin, unique pottery, and a heavy copper nail, all pointing toward significant untapped history on Lot 5.

Short Summary

  • The team located several artifacts on Lot 5, including a deeply buried cut coin identified as arsenical bronze, potentially dating to the 16th century or earlier.
  • Archaeologists identified two new types of 18th-century English ceramics, specifically press-molded pottery and Delftware, predating the Money Pit discovery.
  • A heavy, hand-forged copper nail suggests connection to potential early maritime or construction activity, prompting further deep investigation into Lot 5's features.
  • This episode focuses on continuing the work of the late Robert Young by systematically exploring previously inaccessible land.

This episode details how team access to Lot 5, previously inaccessible land explored extensively by Robert Young, immediately yielded significant finds. The team used XRF analysis to confirm the composition of a deeply buried coin, revealing it contains arsenic, an indicator of age. These finds consolidate evidence suggesting early human activity on Oak Island preceding the known 1795 discovery, shifting focus heavily onto Lot 5.

Rather than finding one part of a cut coin and then wasting time going back to get it checked out...why don't they stay out there all day and continue to metal detect and then bring all the days finds back to the lab?

When they first started they could have flown a Lidar Plane over the Island which would have shown all the Construction on the island. They use it to expose villages and Cities in places like the Amazon jungles. They would have seen exactly where the road from the Swamp to the Money Pit was.

In asking A I about the dimensions of lot 5 Oak Island, I was shown a black & white aerial view of the Island. Much older than recent times. Where lot 4/5 meet at the road, was a square clearing, to the east of lot towards the Nolans, was a very large clearing, and some imprints in the ground can be cross traced from today's overhead. Another curiosity is that large "Boulder," near the road where they removed Robert Young's sign?

Pottery at the bottom of a rock-lined pit? Sounds like a cold cellar. It's clear from the close-ups Laird could stand to use work gloves more often.

the rock hole could be a trash bin. Meant to be buried to hide signs of occupation.

When a sight is dug it's a practice to toss in a coin so that if anyone in the future digs that sight there is a coin there that will date the last dig of that sight .
