Bowl games are essentially the NIT tournament now for college football.

The problem with bowl season today is that if your team doesn't make the playoffs, your team failed. The fact that a team played well enough to be invited to a "better tier" bowl game, was considered an accomplishment to be shared and celebrated. Unfortunately, today, too many fan bases dont see this anymore.

The 4th option is players who compete are competing for NIL prize money. Players who opt out are also opting out of playing for NIL prize money. Sort of like the Vegas tourney for basketball, although I think those opting out still can get money

Bowl games changed for the players when Jaylon Smith from Notre Dame played in the bowl game when he was a guaranteed top five pick. He blew his entire left knee, including ACL, LCL and MCL on January 1, 2016 and went from a top five pick to a second round pick. He lost over 20 million because he didn’t listen and decided to play. In addition, fans started to really only care about the playoff and whether their team was in it.

BCS Championship was kinda of a Bowl Game, one of many, the Main one & where best is at but still one of many bowl games, Playoffs killed everything

I think they should add a conference vs conference showcase weekend! Where the P4 conference rotate every year and the matchups go based on previous year conference standings!

This is what I would like to see. Have approximately half to two thirds of the 25 teams named have a play in game on the weekend they now have conference playoff. The losers of that play in this game have an option to attend a bowl game. If that team decides to opt out than have a back up team arranged to play in their place. That way the fans and the team that have a good season can be rewarded with a more relaxed atmosphere and still have a good chance to end their season on a positive note. As a BYU football fan I would be excited to attend such a bowl game and there would also be a lot of other BYU fans with me.
