College Student Mysteriously Found Dead in the Snow
Family Demands Reopening of Investigation into Megan Trussell's Death Amid Suicide Ruling Conflict
Discover the critical inconsistencies in physical evidence—from torn clothing to remote body placement—that lead Megan Trussell’s parents to believe her death was a homicide, not a suicide. Learn precisely what steps they are taking outside official channels to force a reinvestigation.
Short Summary
- Authorities ruled 18-year-old Megan Trussell died by the toxic effects of amphetamine combined with hypothermia, labeling the manner of death self-inflicted.
- The Trussell family and their private investigator dispute the findings, pointing to clear signs of physical assault, missing property, and an implausible location for her body.
- Expert analysis suggests certain injuries and the body’s placement point toward a possible staging scenario or a secondary crime scene.
- The family is self-funding an extensive private investigation, raising over $85,000 to pursue a private autopsy and challenge the current findings.
This report details the ongoing conflict between Megan Trussell’s parents and local authorities following the discovery of the college freshman's body in February. Host Jesse Weber speaks first with parents Joe Trussell and Vanessa Diaz, who outline their timeline of events differing from the official report, detailing evidence of a struggle. They follow this testimony with crucial perspective from professional Coroner Dr. Nita Rutherford, who weighs in on the physical evidence and the plausibility of the self-inflicted ruling.

The roommate felt “betrayed” after walking in on Megan and her boyfriend being intimate? Strange
Boulder county has that history of bad investigation spanning back to Jon Benet Ramsey. Her dorm is maybe 1 mile away or less.
The mother is clearly struggling. A broken heart. Still, she finds the strength to talk about it. Prayers for them.
Wow! I don’t comment much but hearing that they won’t open the case back up even though the evidence of the crime scene is overwhelming and very sus. I hope this video goes viral and things change.
I’m from Boulder. Where she was found is extremely odd. Why was she across the way and not on the path walking at night, alone, in freezing weather going up the incline of the canyon in those platform sneakers, very odd. Why didn’t other cameras see her walking by, she had to have passed some after leaving campus. Plus where is the other shoe? I can understand wanting answers.
Her mom, you can tell she is like, genuinely devastated and heartbroken. I feel so bad for her. 😢
She was so young. How sad.
Praying they get answers. So sorry for your loss.
Yes, it needs to be revisited
