I love listening to really smart people explain their thought process. So many great tips from Wes and clarity in her thinking.
Yes to all of this! Since stepping into a leadership role a few years ago, I’ve realized how unclear my own communication used to be—especially when I saw how scattered things felt when my team came to me with unstructured thoughts. It made me completely rethink and revamp how I communicate, both with my team and the rest of the leadership group.
Wes is the only substack I read and have ever read. I stumbled across one of her newsletters. She has such original ideas. I learn a ton from them.
re: sales before logistics - one of my favorite quotes - "don't confuse sales with implementation". it applies at both ends.
This was so helpful. I get really anxious when I am pulled into meetings at the last minute, without knowing an agenda and without prior preparation, I find my communication lagging and feeling clueless. This was so helpful, there are some actionables that I can exhibit when I am caught off guard next time
Just realised I use my IG and Twitter as swipe files. And ROI is crazy, cause that's how I found you and your newsletter. 2nd time watching listening to this episode. A gem.
This "what is a mindset of a leader" is so critical for team members and hard to get at without either working with a lot of leaders or being a leader themselves. My favorite story about this was the PM who lurked around the microkitchen to talk to the CEO as he was leaving---he knew that was a receptive moment and whatever he said would stick. And yeah, most people don't actually know what the important part of what they're saying is. I apply that in interview coaching a lot: use your prep time to identify what the key inflection points were, the A in STAR/CARL.
Enjoyed this podcast! Human analogue related how we use or position gpt was truly eye-opening!
Lots of learning from this video. Thank you 🙂
For years I've been obsessed with communicating clearly and effectively, so it's nice to see someone else with the same affliction! Loved the frameworks, especially CEDAF, and Lenny's point that these tactics work equally as well with AI as they do with humans. I think it goes deeper than that, perhaps to a metaphysical level—it's the ancient Greek concept of the logos.
