It is also very important to note about Ramadan, I think it gets overlooked by the fasting, but during Ramadan Muslims give so much in charity (sadaqah) and obligatory 2.5% of their wealth (zakat) for people in need.
Lived in the middle east for almost a decade... absolute funniest thing online was the fake call in show where a guy asked if he slips in his kitchen and an entire chicken schwarma falls into his mouth with extra hummus does it count as a gift.
Regarding the "accidentally eating something" that seems like a joke - I have a muslim student who is observing ramadan and during class a week or so ago another student offered him a breath mint or candy or something, and he just popped it in his mouth. Like five seconds later he spit it out and then explained to me why. But the whole thing - from being offered to spitting it out - could not have been more than ten seconds. Sometimes it happens! :)
Wow, I haven't seen Obi since I took my shahada. Alhamdulillah for this special episode. Jazzakallah khairn. Edit: Just finished the end and yes Ramadan has saved me for my audhd. Not an exaggeration. Saved. The discipline is precious. But I practice weeks before Ramadan so it is more focused and emotionally mature for me in my case.
As a non-muslim, this was so sweet to watch and note. thank you obi and cat.
A Muslim friend explained it as a way to experience some discomfort as a reminder of how much worse the poor and displaced feel who go hungry every day and night. She and her husband always brings us a wonderful Indian food and beverage basket during the first week.
12:50 what i noticed growing up in the UAE, was that during Ramadan, many restaurants modify their operations such that during the daytime, they'd only do takeaways, and would have the curtains/shades closed if they had large windows
Ramadan kareem 🙏
I love hearing your explanations and answers to questions. As a westerner who has very little understanding of Ramadan, I didn't know what questions to even ask! I love learning whatever I can about different cultures, countries, and people (and food!) Thank you!
I always send that meme to my friend at the beginning of ramadan every year. We laugh at it every year
