I shrunk down into an M5 chip
Visualizing the Extreme Scale of Modern Computer Transistors
Appreciate the unbelievable miniaturization of electronics by shrinking down from human size to see how modern microchips fit billions of components into your pocket.
Short Summary
- Grasp the exponential progress since the first computers using scale visualization.
- Understand the implications of Moore's Law on transistor size reduction over the decades.
- Compare the size of modern microchips to everyday objects and massive geographical areas.
This video uses shrinking visuals to make the abstract concept of billions of transistors tangible. It tracks size reduction from 1948 to modern 3nm technology, highlighting the astounding density achieved in devices like the M5 chip.

Loved working on this collab, there really is an incredible world inside our phones. Thanks so much Marques!
This is easily top 3 mkbhd video ever
Isn't it crazy how we taught rocks to do math?
I appreciate you mentioning that this was made in blender and not ai.
Bro this is the coolest video you’ve ever made. That was really dope.
Can’t believe this is “free content” and not a Netflix special called “Inside the Chip.”

I am an electronic engineer, more specifically, a semiconductor engineer. Thank you for making this video. I have always found it incredibly difficult to convey the true sense of scale at which we design and manufacture silicon. I hope more people come to realise what an astonishing period of history we are living in. Most people take these magnificent leaps for granted, so videos like this at least give curious minds an opportunity to try to understand what's really going on.
Thanks for not comparing anything to a football field 😅
Atoms the size of marbles really put it into perspective for me....🤯
