The Windows Laptop Problem
Apple's New MacBook Neo Creates a Crisis for Windows Laptops
Analyze how the newly launched, aggressively priced MacBook Neo and the high-end MacBook Pro are forcing a radical reassessment of the entire Windows laptop ecosystem, from Dell to Microsoft.
Short Summary
- The $600 MacBook Neo delivers a premium, vertically integrated experience previously reserved for high-cost Macs.
- Windows laptop success relies on the simultaneous perfect execution of multiple, independent companies (OEMs, Intel, Microsoft).
- Apple uses the Neo as a "Trojan Horse" to acquire new users for its high-margin services business.
This analysis compares the fragmented Windows laptop market against Apple's vertically integrated approach, highlighting how aggressive pricing on the low-end (Neo) and extreme performance on the high-end (Pro) are pressuring competitors who struggle with coordination and software friction.

I'm still confused that Apple made a laptop with an iphone chip running macOS, while also making an ipad with a mac chip running iOS
Apple being behind in the ai race might actually be its saving grace
The Windows logo made from the light on the background wall. Chef's kiss.
Apple: "Here's a $600 premium laptop." Windows: "Before you begin, would you like 14 updates, 6 sign-ins, and McAfee?"
I'm glad the neo exists.. not because I'll get one, but because it will force manufacturers to get more competitive
Honestly, the biggest Windows problem isn’t the hardware, it’s that Apple is currently playing 4D chess selling computers as Trojan horses for services, while Windows is still trying to figure out how to sell me McAfee I never asked for.
Ironic that Apple messed up Apple Intelligence so badly that they are now benefitting from not being associated with AI slop
The subtle Windows logo in the background is a nice touch.
Two thousand dollars for a laptop and I need to endure advertisements? I don’t think that’s acceptable. Hi Apple! Windows laptop, meet your new Linux OS.
