FYI - according to Grok, “ in the 2025 VITAL telomere sub-study from Harvard researchers, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, participants in the vitamin D arm took exactly 2,000 IU of vitamin D3 daily”
While i have significantly increased my vitamin d from 45 to 88 in about one year, i am not sure it has played any role in my biological age which i calculate when i get my blood results. Aging clocks dont include vitamin d numbers despite the claims by Harvard reducing telomeres. Maybe we need different aging clocks.
Take 10,000IU per day.
Lifestyle seems to be the most significant factor (exercise, antioxidant heavy diet, stress management, good sleep, healthy weight) to slow telomere shortening, but supplements may certainly help. As was pointed out in this nicely concise video, a large randomized trial (VITAL) found vitamin D3 supplementation significantly slowed telomere shortening over 4 years, equivalent to preventing nearly 3 years of aging. Other supplements, per Grok, to consider: - Omega-3 fatty acids: Higher blood levels correlate with slower shortening; they have anti-inflammatory effects. - Folate (natural form, not necessarily synthetic folic acid): Supports DNA maintenance and is linked to longer telomeres. - Antioxidants and polyphenols (from diet or supplements like vitamin C/E, curcumin): Help combat oxidative stress that damages telomeres. Remember, many common herbs are also very high in antioxidants and polyphenols. - Telomerase activators (e.g., TA-65 from astragalus, cycloastragenol): Some small studies show potential to lengthen telomeres or boost telomerase activity. However, evidence is limited, results can be inconsistent, and long-term safety (especially cancer risk from over-activating telomerase) is a concern. Many commercial claims lack strong human evidence. Keep those telomeres long and healthy. 😀
