“I haven’t had this wine before, I just wanted to see if you could get it” is exactly who Alton is
This is one of the first times it's truly hit me how meaningful this show must be for Josh. To live through a turbulent childhood in which these food shows were probably a significant and welcome distraction. To now, sitting down and having meaningful conversation with those same television figures, on his own show. And to be treated as a peer by those you looked up to? I wouldn't be able to sit through it, I'd be in tears after realizing just how incredible it is. Well done Josh, and thank you for such an incredible format where strangers can bond over life and food
oh I would ADORE seeing a Josh and Alton show across Japan so, SO much
This deserves an Emmy. I’ve never seen Alton so vulnerable, raw, honest. Hands down this is your best interview ever Josh. I can’t imagine the pressure of meting your hero.
I love how Alton retired and immediately went off into the woods of YouTube like a deranged wizard released from his duty for the kingdom
This has to be Josh's best interview. You can see him shine because he's in the company of his idol. An incredibly intellectual conversation.
I feel like this episode was the opposite of a “don’t meet your heroes” episode. Alton is somehow everything you’d think he’d be and more. What a lovely man, and lovely episode.
I adore how this interview was less of an examination of Alton's life through the lens of his career, and more of an exploration of what it means to be a person with an interviewer who could thoughtfully interweave philosophical questions between bites and sips. What a masterclass in what human connection can be. Thank you Josh + the MK team for growing this show to what it has become. What a way to kick off your fifth season.
Holy hell! The look on Alton's face when he realized Josh was talking about him as his role model... My heart...
