I was on a flight to the US last week and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan was on the in-flight movie list. The scene near the beginning where Kirk boards Enterprise for a crew inspection and the cadets are all like 'Sir Yes Sir!' and later, when one of them dies, Scotty is almost in tears with 'he stayed at his post to the end Sir' and then, of course, the denouement and Kirk's eulogy for Spock and I just thought - how did we get from that to Starfleet Arsecademy. Really - how?
Gatekeeping was important after all.
"I believe I accidentally swallowed my communication badge." - It’s hard to fathom that this actual line made it into the final version.
“This show was not made for you!” “Why didn’t you show up?”
"It's your fault for not eating the shit sandwich we made!" - The Entertainment Industry.
“You turned the fans against me!” “You have done that yourself!”
They used to write stories with messages in them, now they write messages with stories around them.
Look, Hollywood. If you're going to constantly blame me for something failing, can you at least put my name in the credits with all the other reasons something fails?
Strong entertainment doesn't need to be defended or justified. Bad entertainment needs all the help it can get.
Evil cannot create, it can only corrupt what good men have made
