Critique of UK Tax Policy and the Flight of Global Capital

Understand why Western high-tax policies push wealth away, as former UK Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng analyzes the economic shift towards dynamic emerging markets.

Short Summary

  • [00:01:30] Failed UK tax cuts proved that tax reduction lacks credibility without simultaneous spending restraint.
  • [00:09:24] Proposals like capital wealth taxes actively drive mobile high-net-worth individuals out of Western nations.
  • [00:10:42] The UK currently registers as the world’s number one net outbound migration country.
  • [00:34:16] The UK lacks competitive investor visas, forcing entrepreneurs seeking to bring capital and jobs elsewhere.

Former Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng explains the mechanics behind the UK’s fiscal "doom loop" following his dismissal. This discussion contrasts stagnation in the West with capital migration toward high-growth regions, emphasizing that mobile wealth demands competitive taxation and personal freedom.

Who would stay in country where inheritance tax is 40% which will from 2027 will include pensions as well. You are looking at tax for many at well over 60%. The UK also has millions of people on welfare has high crime and uncontrolled immigration. Stupidly they got rid of the non dom status and the investor visa as well. Also Corporation tax went up as well as National Insurance for employers. CGT has also gone up from 10/18% to 18/24% respectively for share sales. Taxes will also go up in November. Just think the UK government has to borrow at higher levels than Greece. The UK is completely cooked.

Thank you Andrew, wonderful interview with Kwasi. One of the hardest decisions I had to make in life was to leave the UK in 2007, looking at the country today it has turned out to be one of my best decisions. This is going to take decades to sort out, more time than I have left sadly.

Liz Truss and Kwasi Kwarteng had the right instincts and policies, even though they left with egg on their faces. The mainstream Tories were desperate to remain socialists and now they will be replaced by Nigel Farage and Reform.

Fantastic interview. Thank you. I regret what happened with Liz & Kwasi in 2022. Mistakes were made for sure, but the real problem is that the establishment couldn’t handle the truth. Too much comfort from head burying.
