Instead it was a beautiful testament to an American hero and the families that don’t get the recognition they deserve. It is also a story about the importance of journalism. I'm a journalist at a small newspaper in a rural area, and have a small inkling of how it must have felt for that director at ABC News when he found the video footage of Captain Pitts. A few years ago I covered the death of a 14 year old boy, to date the youngest death I've covered. About a year later I get a message from his uncle wondering if he could have the photo I took of the boy at the start of that year's recreational fishing season. I had no idea what he was talking about, but a quick search through my photos folder and there he was. That picture was taken about six weeks before the accident that killed him. There were a lot of emotions when I saw that photo, but I think the biggest one was the happiness/relief of knowing not only that it was found, but the boy's family now had a copy of it too.
