we also need to clarify what an extreme belief is. universal healthcare is not extreme. equal rights is not extreme. free school of all kinds is not extreme. union empowerment is not extreme. anti trust enforcement is not extreme. the reality is that the status quo is already pretty extreme, and the reasonable course of action is decisive action
Talking about secondary PTSD, there's nothing more disheartening than watching the insurrection live on TV with the same concern for this nation as when I watched the attacks on September 11th 2001 unfold, and then see the dude who provoked it get elected a second time, after not being convicted for the attacks, and on top of that, see him pardon all the insurrectionists, including possibly the dude who left pipe bombs around DC. We live in truly the darkest timeline.
I'm becoming a more extreme leftist. I'm feeding the unhoused, hosting and attending charity events, doing food and clothing drives, protesting with union workers and trying to help people etc, etc, etc. I'm actually touching a lot of grass, meeting a lot of people with all sorts of political backgrounds, and I feed lots of unhoused people wearing Trump merch, and I don't treat them any differently than anyone else. What am I doing wrong, here? Why are people concerned about my actions? My ex Qanon friend started taking psychedellics, isolating and stockpiling weapons for "the storm" and cut himself off from friends and family. Young men in pickups flying Tr*mp flags are coal rolling veterans and grandmas who protest with me. I hate to be lumped in with that crowd: we are not the same.
Huh, a Friday show at 3 pm EST? Wow
9:50 I didn't forget how to have fun, it's just a lot of what I previously used to enjoy has been priced out of my affordability
A Friday show??? We are blessed
Centrists try to pretend that the polarization, fake news, authoritarianism, and fraying social fabric problems aren't _overwhelmingly_ a right wing issue. Study after study has shown they're more likely to believe and spread lies, and more resistant to new information or changing their minds. There is no center position that can fix this. We can't simply meet them halfway on blatant falsehoods. We have to draw a hard line and unfortunately that seems to scare centrists more than encroaching fascism.
We really gotta start teaching kids RESEARCH LITERACY. Doing your own research does nothing if you don’t know how to interpret and read the fuckin numbers, correlations, causations, etc.
12:20 I don’t totally trust Goldman Sachs’ claim here because they’re extremely invested in the current AI boom.
I rarely comment here but I felt this was important: I VERY much enjoyed the format of this Friday show. (So much so that I paid for this comment in hopes that it gets seen 😅) As someone who's been a daily watcher for 10+ years now I've seen Friday shows come and go. The way you integrate audience questions as a prompt to deliver a news story and then wrap a bow on it with Phil's personal advice feels very authentic to the spirit of the regular Mon-Thurs show while being versatile enough so you folks can prepare it ahead of time. I really hope you consider making this the standard and that you continue to iterate off of it to really make it shine
