Even if she’s right about the US government not caring about veterans, it doesn’t make it right to wish PTSD upon them.
Having read the AI story on the NYT I'm surprised access to his stepdad's firearm wasn't mentioned at all here Phil. Especially given he had already been taken to therapy and was going through issues his parents knew about.
Military veteran with PTSD here who served in Afghanistan and Iraq. This is complex. Let's start by saying I was a young, dumb man who didn't have many prospects at the time and I wanted to go to college. The military offered me training that would help me get a career, a paycheck and to pay for college after I served. I was poor and easy to exploit. Don't you wonder why recruiters are always around low income areas? We don't have many options and the military knows that. Now I'm college educated and understand the military industrial complex. I'm not proud of my service or proud of the fact that I served an imperialist government where DOD contractors and billionaires get rich off of the suffering of innocent people. I understand Mia's anger. I just wish we could inform young people and create material circumstances where no one would have to go to war to make a meager living. I will say the VA has done wonders helping me treat my PTSD.
Vet here. People gotta understand that we dont all share the same politics in the military. We are just as diverse in our beliefs as the rest of the country, and most veterans come from poor households, btw. For many, the military is access to job experience, college, and opportunity, and these incentives draw anyone who can't afford to go to college or fufill their dreams/start a business.
As someone with PTSD, I wouldn't even wish it on the people that caused my PTSD.
I grew up delivering food, medical supplies, clothing, and survival supplies to homeless people with my family. Not only are there many homeless veterans in the U.S. Police used to harass us and them to discourage us from helping them. It got to the point that it was too dangerous for me to continue going when I became a paraplegic because Police had been getting physical in later years.
That Tennessee cop living his life in conspiracies while walking around armed… well, that’s a nightmare. Anything he can imagine, he can use as an excuse to harm those he’s sworn to protect.
when i was admitted to a psych ward a few years ago, i met a man who is a vietnam war vet (funny enough my parents were vietnamese refugees). he was such a nice guy, touched in the head likely due to extreme drug use, and he gave me advice on house squatting and car jacking (he was very much homeless), all with a cheer, but one group session we had he spoke about his time during the war and it was the first ive ever seen him cry. he drew me something during my stay and i took it home and intend to frame it as per his request. i still think about him and hope hes okay.
Character ai is like the most censored, guard-railed, lobotomised version of an ai chat bot you could possibly find, I’ve seen some of the chat screenshots and multiple times it told him not to kill himself when he brought it up, he had to make it sound as vague as possible for the ai to “encourage him”. Seems to me he was looking for a reason to do it and would probably happen regardless of the ai chat bot. Now this poor kid is dead and what his mum is doing has resulted in all his private conversations being put online for anyone to see.
Conspiracy cop's evidence: yeah it happened, just trust me bro
