The actor who played Mr. Matuchak did the Wizard in the Wizard of Oz.
What's really nice about this film is that it's in the public domain so no edits are required. Same goes for many other older films that simply did not bother to renew copyrights. "His Girl Friday" with Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell, featuring Ralph Bellamy and Gene Lockhart also falls into this group. Great dialog, great acting and great story with no edits needed. Also, so glad you did this movie. It's so good! Gotta love how the creators of "You've Got Mail" paid homage by naming the bookstore this title. James Stewart is one of my all time favorite actors. He nailed every role and every character.
"He's never looked better". This was just before Jimmy Stewart went to war. It's a Wonderful Life was his first movie after the war. 5 years, but he looked 10 years older....war does that to a person.
SOCKS: Before modern elastic fabrics like spandex, socks relied on external support like garters to stay in place.
I think the actor that was the detective he was the bank examiner in It’s A Wonderful Life and the man at the restaurant was Mr. Martini from It’s A Wonderful Life
I've had the DVD of this for years because it's included with the You've Got Mail Blu-ray but didn't watch it until last Christmas and I was actually blown away by how charming and wonderful I found the movie--especially when Matuschek takes the young kid to dinner for Christmas.
The “Boss” was also the “Wizard” in the “Wizard Of Oz”!!
Cassie, what you said at the beginning in regards to when you were young with your parents etc, my equivalent was as a kid on holidays and Dad would say 'Look at the view. Look at the scenery', and us kids not being interested. And then there is a point in life where you go 'I get it now. look at that...'.
I'm impressed. Few people know this film exists. I watch it a couple times a year as the actors do such a wonderful job bringing their characters to life.
I was actually on a plane with Jimmy Stewart in 1986 from Frankfurt, Germany. Obviously, he was in first class. He is one of the greatest actors ever.
