This was one of the first mainstream movies to show two older gay men in a long term relationship like it was just a normal relationship. As a closeted college student struggling with their identity, that scene of Robin Williams and Nathan Lane on the bench talking about the cemetary plot was something I really needed to hear, and I still tear up every time I watch it.

Hank Azaria also does a lot of voices on The Simpsons. The scene where Robin falls in the kitchen wasn't scripted, the floor was wet and he fell so they kept it in. The movie was based on the 70s French movie las cage aux folles. Nathan lane wasn't out yet when they made this, he and Robik famously were on Oprag promoting it when she started asking Nathan how he was so good at playing a drag queen when Robin distracted her by telling jokes. Bessie Jackson was the wife of that senator who died with the underage sex worker.

YES! This is a comfort movie for me. Been watching it since I was a kid. Robin and Nathan just make this move feel so cozy. I love it so much.
