My mom died of cancer. This year will be 20 years she passed. Movie hit me hard.
Stand and applaud for Alfie Williams as Spike. Someone said he would make a great Atreus in a God Of War live action adaptation, and I could not agree more.
Personally, I liked the direction the movie took. Most people were disappointed because we didn't got a recycled movie with the same things all over again. The movie is intense, touching and deep. I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea, but for me it was a breath of fresh air and I loved it.
The lights they were looking at in the attic weren’t from their town. They’re from the foreign boats patrolling the seas and maintaining the quarantine around the UK
It just hit me on a second watch that at the end jimmy and the crew are the colors of the Teletubbies! Lol
After 28 years I imagine your clothes would wear away. Especially when they’re constantly out in the elements. And all nudity is prosthetics because of the child actor having to interact with the infected.
I love how Spike’s moms story really highlights man’s continued hopelessness against illnesss. 2 thousand years ago the people in town would’ve said that Demons are possessing her and they need a high priest of the land to help drive them out, thousand years after that some quack, who was also the town’s barber, would’ve convinced her husband and son to let them drill holes in her skull to let the bad humors in her brain to be set free so she would feel better. And now in this world in 2025 everyone in town knows there’s something wrong with her medically but don’t have access to anything to help her so might as well be 2000 years ago.
This kid put on one of the best performances this year. Little guy really had us rooting for him and tuggin on all the heart strings.
I love how the movie contrasts the “rite of passage” style bravery and killing for killing’s sake with Spike’s bravery in protecting his mom. He wasn’t comfortable with the random killing, but was capable of everything he needed to be when it came to protecting his loved ones. And topping it off with memento mori where Kelson reminds them of humanity in life and death was great. A “zombie” movie with a lot of say about human beings.
