  • The theatrical ending provides Seymour a redemption arc, allowing him to destroy the plant and achieve the happy ending test audiences preferred.
  • Musical numbers serve a crucial narrative function, progressing plot and revealing characters' inner desires, such as Audrey’s longing in "Somewhere That's Green."

From director Frank Oz (The Muppets Take Manhattan, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels), Little Shop of Horrors (1986) is a cult classic horror / comedy / musical blending dark humor, catchy songs, and unforgettable practical effects. Based on the off-Broadway stage musical (itself adapted from Roger Corman’s 1960 film), the movie follows the nerdy florist Seymour Krelborn (Rick Moranis – Ghostbusters, Honey I Shrunk the Kids) who discovers a mysterious man-eating plant he names Audrey II. As the plant grows, so does Seymour’s fame and fortune — but Audrey II’s insatiable hunger for human flesh spirals into chaos. Ellen Greene (Pushing Daisies, Leon: The Professional) shines as Audrey, Seymour’s love interest, while Steve Martin (The Jerk, Planes, Trains & Automobiles) delivers an iconic performance as sadistic dentist Orin Scrivello. The film also features memorable appearances from Vincent Gardenia (Moonstruck, Bang the Drum Slowly) as Mr. Mushnik, James Belushi (Saturday Night Live, Red Heat), and Bill Murray (Groundhog Day, Ghostbusters) in one of the film’s most famous comedic cameos. Highlights include the show-stopping musical numbers “Suddenly, Seymour” and “Dentist!,” Audrey II’s jaw-dropping puppetry, and the alternate “Director’s Cut” ending where the monstrous plant takes over the world. Andrew Gordon, Aaron Alexander & John Humphrey react, review, and break down both the Director’s Cut and the original theatrical ending of Little Shop of Horrors, discussing the legacy of this bizarre, hilarious, and beloved musical. #LittleShopOfHorrors #RickMoranis #FrankOz #AudreyII #SteveMartin #EllenGreene #CultClassic #80sMovies #HorrorComedy #Musicals #Movie #Movies #ClassicMovies #CultClassic #CultClassics #React #ReactTo #Reaction #Musical The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) Movie Reaction: https://youtu.be/6DFhcUKKkGM Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007) Movie Reaction: https://youtu.be/ia_7ky3_czg Marvel Zombies Episodes 1 - 4 Reaction: https://youtu.be/qdf-nMF5FTc Who Framed Roger Rabit (1988) Movie Reaction: https://youtu.be/4p6p_QH9IyY KPop Demon Hunters (2025) Movie Reaction: https://youtu.be/45_EQSazdDk Follow Andrew Gordon On Socials: YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@MovieSource Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/agor711/?hl=en Twitter: https://twitter.com/Agor711 Follow Aaron On Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/therealaaronalexander/?hl=en 0:00 Checking In! 03:00 Little Shop of Horrors Reaction 32:04 ACORNS 33:33 Little Shop of Horrors Movie Reaction 01:06:06 Little Shop of Horrors Review Intense Suspense by Audionautix is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ RR Clips & Shorts Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@ReelRejectsClips Follow TheReelRejects On The Socials: IG: https://www.instagram.com/reelrejects/ TT: https://www.tiktok.com/@thereelrejects?lang=en TWITTER: https://twitter.com/thereelrejects FB: https://www.facebook.com/TheReelRejects/ Music Used In Ad: Hat the Jazz by Twin Musicom is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Happy Alley by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Head Editor: https://www.instagram.com/praperhq/?hl=en Supervising Producer: https://twitter.com/nerdchronic?lang=en Co-Editor: Greg Alba Co-Editor: John Humphrey Music In Video: Airport Lounge - Disco Ultralounge by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Follow & Listen to Us Wherever You Get Your Podcasts!! - Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3XHMwbveiznxSOGxN9XT0M - Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy5tZWdhcGhvbmUuZm0vc3Rhci13YXJzLXRhbGs - Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-reel-rejects-tv-movie-recaps/id1616339990 - Audible: https://www.audible.com/pd/The-Apocalypse-Podcast/B08JJP58FG Ask Us A QUESTION On CAMEO: https://www.cameo.com/thereelrejects Follow GREG On INSTAGRAM & TWITTER: INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/thegregalba/ TWITTER: https://twitter.com/thegregalba PLAYLISTS: Movie Reviews: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-bIhJVeYWw-comtadVs8b9JsZEWHUyr8 Sketches & Short Films: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-bIhJVeYWw_zWuTRfBOUP3aYyIYRzc2y

In the theatrical cut, Seymour survives the building collapsing and jabs Audrey II with a loose wire, electrocuting it to death. Afterwards, he and Audrey (who didn't die from being bit) go to live happily ever after in that house from "Somewhere That's Green", but the camera pans to show a little Audrey II in their garden.

Steve Martin’s song is most definitely in the play and both versions of the film! It explains so much about him and why he deserves to be Audrey II’s dinner.

Rick decided to stop acting because his wife had cancer and he wanted to spend more time with his kids. So amazing. I could only wish for a dad like him

Jim Hensen and his team had multiple people puppeteering Audry II. Audry II was voiced by Levi Stubbs who was the lead vocalist for "The Four Tops" and he also did the voice of Mother Brain from in the cartoon "Captain N" Fun Fact: This is the only movie with Bill Muray and Steve Martin together.

The three singing girls/greek chorus were named after famous girl groups, the Crystals, the Ronnettes, and the Chiffons.

In the latest Broadway big scale production, after intermission, Audrey II had grown so large it had sprawled beyond the proscenium of the stage to envelop much of the theatre. Audiences discovered this after reëntering the house after intermission. AMAZING!!
