Roxy Striar & Andrew Gordon sit down for their first-time reaction to The Silence of the Lambs, one of the most iconic psychological thrillers in cinema history. Directed by Jonathan Demme (Philadelphia, Rachel Getting Married) and based on the novel by Thomas Harris, the film follows FBI trainee Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster – Taxi Driver, Panic Room, Contact) as she seeks the help of the brilliant yet terrifying Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins – The Father, The Two Popes, Westworld) to catch the elusive serial killer Buffalo Bill (Ted Levine – Monk, The Fast and the Furious). This reaction dives deep into unforgettable moments like the chilling “I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti” scene, Hannibal’s eerie first meeting with Clarice Starling, “Well, hello Clarice” (a line forever etched in pop culture), Clarice’s intense interview sessions with Hannibal Lecter, Buffalo Bill’s disturbing transformation scenes including “It puts the lotion on its skin” and “Put the lotion in the basket!” plus the terrifying night vision climax that remains one of the most suspenseful endings in cinema history. The film also stars Scott Glenn (The Bourne Ultimatum, The Leftovers) as Jack Crawford, and Brooke Smith (Grey’s Anatomy, Interstellar) as Catherine Martin. The Silence of the Lambs stands as a cornerstone in the Hannibal Lecter franchise, which includes Manhunter, Hannibal, Red Dragon, Hannibal Rising, and the acclaimed TV series Hannibal starring Mads Mikkelsen. This reaction comes as part of our growing exploration of legendary films and continues our coverage of the most influential thrillers. #SilenceOfTheLambs #Hannibal #JodieFoster #AnthonyHopkins #HannibalLecter #ClariceStarling #BuffaloBill #MovieReaction #HorrorMovies #ThrillerMovies #OscarWinners #CrimeThriller #PsychologicalHorror #JonathanDemme #ThomasHarris #ReactionVideo #FilmAnalysis #react #reaction #reactionvideo Final Destination Bloodlines Reaction: https://youtu.be/WdBb9GUtmuY Sinners Reaction: https://youtu.be/cu1bcprLdYY Carrie Reaction: https://youtu.be/hK3fTatWPNM The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016) Movie Reaction: https://youtu.be/6WpEjTdV9zw Misery (1990) Movie Reaction: https://youtu.be/7O6ka2eA394 0:00 Checking In! 2:09 Silence of the Lambs Reaction 33:22 HUEL 35:10 Silence of the Lambs Movie Reaction 56:37 Patron Q&A + Silence of the Lambs Review Follow Roxy Striar: Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@TheWhirlGirls Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/roxystriar/?hl=en Twitter: https://twitter.com/roxystriar Follow Andrew Gordon On Socials: YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@MovieSource Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/agor711/?hl=en Twitter: https://twitter.com/Agor711 Support The Channel By Getting Some REEL REJECTS Aparrel! https://www.rejectnationshop.com/ RR Clips & Shorts Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@ReelRejectsClips Follow TheReelRejects On The Socials: IG: https://www.instagram.com/reelrejects/ TT: https://www.tiktok.com/@thereelrejects?lang=en TWITTER: https://twitter.com/thereelrejects FB: https://www.facebook.com/TheReelRejects/ Music Used In Ad: Hat the Jazz by Twin Musicom is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Happy Alley by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Head Editor: https://www.instagram.com/praperhq/?hl=en Supervising Producer: https://twitter.com/nerdchronic?lang=en Co-Editor: Greg Alba Music In Video: Airport Lounge - Disco Ultralounge by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Follow & Listen to Us Wherever You Get Your Podcasts!! - Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3XHMwbveiznxSOGxN9XT0M - Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy5tZWdhcGhvbmUuZm0vc3Rhci13YXJzLXRhbGs - Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-reel-rejects-tv-movie-recaps/id1616339990 - Audible: https://www.audible.com/pd/The-Apocalypse-Podcast/B08JJP58FG Follow GREG On INSTAGRAM & TWITTER: INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/thegregalba/ TWITTER: https://twitter.com/thegregalba PLAYLISTS: Trailer Reactions & Reviews: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-bIhJVeYWw9ZsLdoAQFpx38s2hhyFgDe Movie Reviews: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-bIhJVeYWw-comtadVs8b9JsZEWHUyr8 Sketches & Short Films: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-bIhJVeYWw_zWuTRfBOUP3aYyIYRzc2y Vlog: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-bIhJVeYWw9TdRZC0NvGLve0eNWmUjzs

Hopkins won the Oscar for his performance despite only having 16 mins of screen time. A truly incredible and haunting performance from an all time great.

38:22 Here's what most people miss about the sketch of Clarice and the physical contact just before it; Lecter only draws the things he cares about, the things that give him actual pleasure (recreations of art and architecture). Given that he's a sociopath and that humans really don't matter to him it indicates that Clarice has really made an impression on him in a way that probably no other person ever really has. It's an incredibly human moment for someone who has never really learned how to be one.

Fun fact: TedLevine (Buffalo Bill) and Brooke Smith (Catherine Martin) developed a quirky relationship while filming the movie. In between their intensely dark scenes, they cracked all kinds of jokes about the scenes and script. The crew started to get creeped out by their banter. Brooke later said in an interview that the reason why she and Ted did that was to psychologically protect themselves.

What’s really sort of genius is that Hannibal was dropping clues to what Buffalo Bill was up to the whole movie. When he tells the senator that he loves her suit that was a great subtle moment.

25:38 Dr Pilcher is actually the only time Clarice is asked out in this movie in a non-creepy way. Is it really an appropriate time? Not necessarily, but the way he does it is straightforward and non-threatening, and when he's rejected, he simply accepts it and moves on. It's an interesting contrast to Dr Chilton, whose initial pickup attempt is condescending, and his reaction to her rejection is to turn petty and bitter.

*Fun Facts:* Anthony Hopkins actually based all of Hannibal’s famous mannerisms on animals. His cold yet alluring demeanor, his disturbing stares, his ability to attack with surprising speed, all based on spiders and crocodiles. He also had input into his outfits, he said that Hannibal would want his jumpsuit almost tailored to him and that his hair should be greased back like a rat. Also, during the famous scene of Clarice telling Hannibal about the lambs, the script originally called for a flashback of Clarice’s story, but the director wisely decided to have the scene focus entirely one Anthony and Jodie’s performances, saying “I feel like would be kicked out of the Directors Guild if I cut the camera away from these two during this scene”.

Jodie Foster did such a great job as Clarice, as did Anthony Hopkins with Hannibal.

Nobody seems to clock that when they go to examine the body, the reason Starling is able to get all the cops to leave is because she drops into her West Virginia accent. They realize she's from there.
