RIP Paul Newman, voice of Doc Hudson. This was his final movie role before his death. A legendary note to go out on, I'd say.
Wait! Cars is now 20 years old!?!??!?! That's insane!! I remember watching this movie around the time it released
Random detail, but in the UK version, McQueen's agent is Jeremy Clarkson, and in the US it's Jeremy Piven The Johns reacted to Piven's voice but Clarkson's voice is in the edit
13:28 Hearing Jeremy Clarkson as Harv here was super surprising! Most Cars reaction I've seen are usually the US version so seeing a UK version reaction was really pleasing. Gotta love Jezza man
I know it’s obvious as an adult - but this movie being a 2 hour training montage for Lightening both on the track and off is great. From a sports movie standpoint: 1) he trains with resistance via repairing the street 2) he trains technique via the dirt race 3) he trains reaction and speed with mater and cow tipping 4) he trains networking skills via the towns’ friendliness and community 5) he trains in remembering why he loved the sport via driving with sally through the mountains 6) he trains in humility after seeing a legend and what ended his career 7) so the pay off at the end feels earned because he was always number 1 (in our hearts).
Screw it I'm gonna say it! This is the best soundtrack in Pixar's lineup. Real gone, life is a highway, our town, rout 66, the main theme, it's all so GOOD! 🎸
17:17 he says "cars 2 has the other half of the fast and the furious franchise" and he's actually right lmao
Couple fun facts for y'all: 1. Strip "The King" Weathers is both based off of and voiced by Richard "The King" Petty, a retired NASCAR driver who raced from '58 to '92. He's known by most NASCAR fans as the greatest NASCAR driver due to his absolutely obscene stats lineup including but not limited to: 7 Championships, 200 Wins and nearly 50K laps lead. 2. The commentators Darrel Cartrip and Bob Cutlass are both voice by real life commentators Darrel Waltrip, who's a NASCAR commentator and former driver, and Bob Costas, a MLB commentator.

the crash at 1:03:31 is a callback to one of the crashes that Richard Petty (voice of The King here) had back in the 80s. he had a couple of massive crashes where the car flipped 5+ times. his racing number was 43, he raced most of his career under STP Oils, which Dinoco mirrors here, and his most famous car was the 1969-70 Plymouth Superbird "wing car" painted in TB3 Chrysler blue, later on dubbed "Petty Blue." many of the race cars and announcers are actual drivers and announcers and retired drivers from NASCAR and the various broadcasters. Darrel Cartrip is Darrel Waltrip, he and his brother Michael were big racers in the 1970s-80s, and both went into broadcasting after they hung up their helmets
