IT WAS ABOUT IDENTITY & ACCEPTANCE ALL ALONG!! Pixar's Luca Full Movie Reaction Watch Along: https://www.patreon.com/thereelrejects - Gift Someone (Or Yourself) An RR Tee! https://shorturl.at/hekk2 With the success of Pixar's HOPPERS + Toy Story 5 on the horizon, Greg & Andrew head off to the Italian Riviera as they give their LUCA reaction, recap, analysis, commentary, breakdown, & spoiler review! Greg Alba & Andrew Gordon react to and review Luca (2021), the heartwarming Pixar animated coming-of-age film directed by Enrico Casarosa (La Luna). Set in a beautiful seaside town on the Italian Riviera, the film blends whimsical fantasy with a deeply personal story about friendship, identity, and growing up. Jacob Tremblay (Room, Wonder) voices Luca Paguro, a curious sea monster who ventures onto land for the first time and discovers a whole new world—literally transforming into a human while out of water. There, he befriends the free-spirited Alberto Scorfano (Jack Dylan Grazer — Shazam!, It), who introduces him to life above the surface, including dreams of freedom and owning a Vespa. Together, they meet Giulia Marcovaldo (Emma Berman), an energetic and determined girl who helps them enter the town’s triathlon-style race as they try to fit in among humans. The film is filled with standout moments, including Luca and Alberto’s first transformation on land, their imaginative Vespa fantasies, and the climactic race that tests their friendship and identity. Meanwhile, the looming threat of discovery by townspeople—especially the intimidating Ercole Visconti (Saverio Raimondo)—adds tension to their adventure. The story ultimately builds to a heartfelt conclusion about embracing who you are and accepting others for their differences. With stunning animation, charming characters, and a universal message about friendship and self-acceptance, Luca stands as one of Pixar’s most heartfelt and visually vibrant films. #Luca #Pixar #DisneyPixar #AnimatedMovies #MovieReaction #FilmReaction #ComingOfAge #PixarMovies #Animation #FamilyMovies #React #ReactTo #Reaction The Super Mario Bros. It’s funny how a lot of people are concerned with Luca and Alberto hunting other fish, but fish are cannibals, a lot of fish just eat other fish lmao Edit since y’all love to just disagree to seem smarter🥴: the same species of fish have eaten each other before, like that’s just nature sometimes. I’m not saying that it’s their only means of food, but it has happened before and it will happen again just due to hunger. Y’all need to stop lmao I’m shaking my head too much it’s gonna make my neck hurt🫠

This deserves so much better than just being buried in Disney plus. Also, the little touch of Massimo going out to look for Alberto was so heartwarming; it was a father looking for a son he never had who grew up without a father figure. It’s the little moments like that that make the movie so nice.

I think this is one of the nicest queer depiction in movies. The metaphor of them being "monsters" who can't be seen among people, Luca projecting by calling Alberto monster after he shows who he is. and that line Lucas grandma said on the end. Plus song with peculiar meaning playing on the end. It's a real sweet movie with extra meanings

I really like Luca. It's gentle and heartwarming. Not all films need to be exciting or perilous.

Sea monsters gotta eat too. The fish killing for food is definitely not a new thing to them haha

I think this movie, at least vibes wise, reminds me most of the slow, low-stakes Ghibli films, i.e. My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service, and of course Ponyo. Combining magical realism with the experiences of growing up, going through changes, and making friends that makes you feel nostalgic for when you were young and everything seemed magical. I haven't seen many other "new age" pixar films, but I hold Luca dear to my heart, because it is the exact kind of movie I loved watching when I was young.

At the very beginning, Luca mentions that one of the fish has swum away and will be "out there" somewhere. This was the fish that was seen in the post-credits scene after Luca's uncle had his monologue. This film could very well be understood as "coming out of the closet." Especially with Grandma's sentence: "There will always be people who don't accept him..." and Alberto's last sentence when he said to Luca: "You took me from the island"

Luca and Alberto's friendship feels so authentic because the director said he based their friendship on his with his own childhood friend who he is still best friends with to this day.
