Lethal Weapon 4 (1998) Full Movie Reaction, Breakdown, Commentary & Spoiler Review! — with hosts John Humphrey & Aaron Alexander diving into the explosive fourth and final chapter of the iconic buddy-cop franchise that ups the stakes with international crime, brutal martial arts, and one last ride for Riggs and Murtaugh. Directed by Richard Donner (Superman, The Goonies), Lethal Weapon 4 reunites Mel Gibson (Mad Max, Braveheart) as the unhinged but lethal Martin Riggs and Danny Glover (Predator 2, The Color Purple) as the perpetually exhausted Roger Murtaugh, now grappling with retirement, fatherhood, and the realization that the world refuses to slow down with him. When a case involving human trafficking and Triad smuggling escalates, the duo finds themselves up against a far more disciplined and dangerous enemy than ever before. John & Aaron break down the film’s standout moments: the jaw-dropping opening shootout, the introduction of Jet Li (Hero, Romeo Must Die) as the terrifying villain Wah Sing Ku, whose lightning-fast hand-to-hand combat redefines the franchise’s action, the escalating Triad conspiracy, and the emotional throughline of family that anchors the chaos. They also highlight the expanded roles of Rene Russo as Lorna Cole, Joe Pesci as the endlessly unlucky Leo Getz, and Chris Rock as Detective Lee Butters, whose comedic energy injects fresh chaos into the team. With an equal blend of humor, heart, & hard-hitting action, Lethal Weapon 4 brings the franchise to a beautiful & heartfelt close... at least until they get that Lethal Weapon 5 off the ground! #LethalWeapon4 #LethalWeapon #BuddyCopMovie #ActionComedy #MelGibson #DannyGlover #JetLi #90sAction #CopMovie #SequelFilm #RichardDonner #MovieReaction #MovieReview #MovieReview #FilmReview #React #ReactTo #Reaction #Marathon #MovieMarathon Rush Hour (1998) Movie Reaction: https://youtu.be/xHDfg1dY9hA The Other Guys (2010) Movie Reaction: https://youtu.be/GRRy9-LQRzc Sherlock Holmes (2009) Movie Reaction: https://youtu.be/1GNEIJVO32s 0:00 Checking in! 2:00 Lethal Weapon 4 Reaction 1:22:32 Lethal Weapon 4 Review Follow Aaron on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/therealaaronalexander/?hl=en Intense Suspense by Audionautix is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ RR Clips & Shorts Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@ReelRejectsClips Follow TheReelRejects On The Socials: IG: https://www.instagram.com/reelrejects/ TT: https://www.tiktok.com/@thereelrejects?lang=en TWITTER: https://twitter.com/thereelrejects FB: https://www.facebook.com/TheReelRejects/ Music Used In Ad: Hat the Jazz by Twin Musicom is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Happy Alley by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Head Editor: https://www.instagram.com/praperhq/?hl=en Supervising Producer: https://twitter.com/nerdchronic?lang=en Co-Editor: Greg Alba Co-Editor: John Humphrey Music In Video: Airport Lounge - Disco Ultralounge by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Follow & Listen to Us Wherever You Get Your Podcasts!! - Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3XHMwbveiznxSOGxN9XT0M - Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy5tZWdhcGhvbmUuZm0vc3Rhci13YXJzLXRhbGs - Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-reel-rejects-tv-movie-recaps/id1616339990 - Audible: https://www.audible.com/pd/The-Apocalypse-Podcast/B08JJP58FG Ask Us A QUESTION On CAMEO: https://www.cameo.com/thereelrejects Follow GREG On INSTAGRAM & TWITTER: INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/thegregalba/ TWITTER: https://twitter.com/thegregalba PLAYLISTS: Trailer Reactions & Reviews: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-bIhJVeYWw9ZsLdoAQFpx38s2hhyFgDe Movie Reviews: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-bIhJVeYWw-comtadVs8b9JsZEWHUyr8 Movie Talk (News, Spoiler Reviews, & Film Rumors!!!): https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-bIhJVeYWw8fPQ-21NVSb2IOwIiHbVt8 Sketches & Short Films: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-bIhJVeYWw_zWuTRfBOUP3aYyIYRzc2y

I've got no problem saying that Leo's story about Froggy and Riggs/Murtaugh at the end gets to me. Every darn time.

4th movie in the franchise and it’s the best of them all. Crazy how they pulled that off

Not many movie series maintain the same level of consistency and focus on character development from each movie installment. Seeing Riggs go from suicidal to gaining a family to wanting to live and moving on was well done. The Murtaugh family playing a consistent role and not being overlooked across the movies. I can see why a Lethal Weapon show was attempted, since there could have been story opportunities with many characters.

I don't need a Lethal Weapon 5. This one did everything it needed to to wrap up the series. It has awesome action, great comedy, and while a bit to many subplots, they all at least have payoffs. The ending with Riggs getting his life back is a complete 180 from the original. The Leo monologue at the end shows that he needed to move on, but to never forget. Its sweet and sincere in my opinion. And I love that Riggs was always portrayed as being the most physically capable of any character in the franchise UNTIL Jet Li shows up in this one. The fact that he's now at that point Murtaugh was in the original is a very full circle thing to do. A pretty solid way to end the series.

Actually my favorite of the series. That final fight in the rain is so epic!

After Jackie Chan's Rumble in the Bronx became a hit in America, resulting in more of his Hong Kong movies being theatrically released in the US, Hollywood studios began casting more HK action stars. The first was Chow Yun-fat for The Replacement Killers in '97, followed by Michelle Yeoh for Tomorrow Never Dies, then Jet Li for this film, and JC for Rush Hour (though he had a couple of failed attempts in the 80s). Heck, Sammo Hung even got a TV show titled Martial Law. As you guessed, this production involved a HK crew. The fight choreography was led by Corey Yuen, a classmate of JC's & SH's, as well as director of several 90s JL flicks. Also, kudos on noticing that Lee Butters is represented by a harmonica in the score. Even most Lethal Weapon fans don't realize that.

Funny enough Captain Murphy is the cousin of Richard Donner, which explains why the Captain looks like him so much.
