I've got no problem saying that Leo's story about Froggy and Riggs/Murtaugh at the end gets to me. Every darn time.
This came out two months before Rush Hour
This is best one out of all of them! The final fight with Jet Li is one of the greatest fights in film history! 🔥
4th movie in the franchise and it’s the best of them all. Crazy how they pulled that off
Not many movie series maintain the same level of consistency and focus on character development from each movie installment. Seeing Riggs go from suicidal to gaining a family to wanting to live and moving on was well done. The Murtaugh family playing a consistent role and not being overlooked across the movies. I can see why a Lethal Weapon show was attempted, since there could have been story opportunities with many characters.
I don't need a Lethal Weapon 5. This one did everything it needed to to wrap up the series. It has awesome action, great comedy, and while a bit to many subplots, they all at least have payoffs. The ending with Riggs getting his life back is a complete 180 from the original. The Leo monologue at the end shows that he needed to move on, but to never forget. Its sweet and sincere in my opinion. And I love that Riggs was always portrayed as being the most physically capable of any character in the franchise UNTIL Jet Li shows up in this one. The fact that he's now at that point Murtaugh was in the original is a very full circle thing to do. A pretty solid way to end the series.
Actually my favorite of the series. That final fight in the rain is so epic!

After Jackie Chan's Rumble in the Bronx became a hit in America, resulting in more of his Hong Kong movies being theatrically released in the US, Hollywood studios began casting more HK action stars. The first was Chow Yun-fat for The Replacement Killers in '97, followed by Michelle Yeoh for Tomorrow Never Dies, then Jet Li for this film, and JC for Rush Hour (though he had a couple of failed attempts in the 80s). Heck, Sammo Hung even got a TV show titled Martial Law. As you guessed, this production involved a HK crew. The fight choreography was led by Corey Yuen, a classmate of JC's & SH's, as well as director of several 90s JL flicks. Also, kudos on noticing that Lee Butters is represented by a harmonica in the score. Even most Lethal Weapon fans don't realize that.
Funny enough Captain Murphy is the cousin of Richard Donner, which explains why the Captain looks like him so much.
