Nekima Levy Armstrong says Jamal Bryant “knew full well what he was doing” when he triggered confusion about ending the Target boycott. Civil rights attorney and Target boycott co-founder Nekima Levy Armstrong sharply pushed back after Jamal Bryant’s press conference created widespread confusion about the status of the Target boycott. Armstrong said Bryant “knew full well what he was doing” when he suggested the boycott was ending, arguing that the move undermined organizing led largely by Black women activists. She made clear the boycott has not ended and said the movement is growing as more consumers withhold their dollars from Target. Armstrong also reiterated the boycott’s demands, including reversing the company’s rollback of diversity, equity, and inclusion commitments and addressing the $2.1 billion pledge Target made after the killing of George Floyd. Armstrong said Bryant “knew full well what he was doing” and accused him of attempting to co‑opt work led by Black women organizers. She emphasized that the boycott continues and argued the movement is gaining momentum because people are withholding their dollars from Target. Armstrong also reiterated the boycott’s demands, including reversing Target’s rollback of diversity, equity, and inclusion commitments and accounting for the $2.1 billion pledge made after the killing of George Floyd.
