Description

LeBron’s words didn’t just land—they hit a city, its people, and its economic reality. Roland directly challenges LeBron after his Memphis comments spark backlash and deeper concern. What sounded like a casual complaint quickly turned into a larger issue about respect, influence, and how powerful voices shape perception. The conversation connects those words to real consequences—how narratives about Black cities can impact investment, jobs, and economic growth. 🔥 LeBron’s Memphis comments triggered backlash over tone and respect 🔥 Roland calls out the disconnect between influence and responsibility 🔥 Panel explains how narratives about Black cities affect perception and investment 🔥 “We don’t give a shit… fans ain’t watching you.” 🔥 “This ain’t just about the quality of a hotel… it’s about Black economics.” #LeBronJames #Memphis #BlackEconomics #NBA #CommunityImpact We’ve launched our official Telegram channel. This has been said about Memphis for at least 20 years now! Even that Tony Allen, Matt Barnes and Zebo team would warm players about the restaurants near the arena.

My problem is with the Nashville over Memphis comment. It upsets me because the government in Nashville looks down on Memphis but wants to take over anything in Memphis that has a high dollar budget.

I live in Memphis. A lot of people don't understand that the state of Tennessee has constantly underfunded Memphis while redirecting resouces to Nashville. So when a man of LeBron James's status and influence suggesting to uproot a vital source of economic machinery to Nashville, the "powers that be" sees this as an opportunity to divert resources Again! It's as if there's a bigger agenda to see Memphis fail because we're a 63% black city. 20 years ago, we use to get the same funding as Nashville. That's not the case anymore. No one is really upset about his hotel preferences, it's the "yall need to move the team to Nashville" that was being so casually thrown around. Moving the team would have a MAJOR and devastating impact locally that will be very hard for this city to recover from in the midst of battling other challenges.

I'm a Memphian. When I was growing up Memphis also had the Oilers (they moved to Nashville. We had a theme park, a water park, world renowned restaurants, a booming night life, places for families and companies that paid a livable wage. It had a good mayor and was growing. I left at 18. And watch from a distance as all of those things left and moved to Nashville (TN doesn't have a state tax) or Atlanta. The more things that left the worse it got. I'm home. All of those things are gone. Now it's all warehouses (that pay just enough for you to be able to come back to work and invest nothing into the city)and empty apartment complexes. Every year the capitol (Nashville) creates new legislation that makes it difficult for Memphis to grow. We're a blue city in a red state, a black city in a white state. LeBron just told those white folks what they wanted to hear. Nashville has been trying for years to remove the Grizzles and Fedex from Memphis. It's Grind City Vs Everybody, Aint no Memphis, TN... it's Memphis, MEMPHIS
