Description

Roland Martin is sounding the alarm after the Supreme Court allowed Alabama Republicans to move forward with maps that could erase Congressman Shomari Figures’ district while voting is already underway. Roland Martin and Congressman Shomari Figures break down the growing legal and political chaos unfolding in Alabama after the Supreme Court allowed Republicans to move forward with contested congressional maps while voting is already taking place. The segment focuses on what panelists describe as a coordinated anti-Black attack on voting rights and Black representation across the South, with Republicans and courts using redistricting, legal maneuvering, and judicial rulings to weaken Black political power. Figures explains how Alabama Republicans openly defied federal court orders, while the Supreme Court simultaneously acknowledged racial discrimination against Black voters and still allowed the state to proceed with new maps. The panel warns that these rulings could reshape Black representation nationwide and repeatedly frames the moment as a democratic and civil rights emergency requiring mass voter mobilization and organizing. 🔥 The Supreme Court has allowed Alabama Republicans to move forward with congressional maps that could erase Congressman Shomari Figures’ district while voting is already underway. 🔥 Roland Martin and the panel say the ruling is part of a broader anti-Black assault on voting rights and Black political power across the South. 🔥 Congressman Shomari Figures explains how Alabama openly defied federal court orders while courts continue changing the rules mid-election. 🔥 Guests warn these rulings could dramatically reduce Black representation nationwide at every level of government. 🔥 “The Supreme Court is literally allowing states to erase, stop, pause, undo an election.” 🔥 “They’re wiping out black representation.” 🔥 “This is anti-black.” #RolandMartinUnfiltered #BlackStarNetwork #ShomariFigures #VotingRights #BlackPoliticalPower #SCOTUS #Alabama We’ve launched our official Telegram channel. When I was nine years old I marched in the Civil Rights march in our city. My dear mother told the six of us we could not go for fear of violence. I jumped off the back porch and went anyway. The march ended at the park. A man talked about what was happening to Black people. I cried all the way home. I became an active Civil Rights fighter. I am 73 years old. I am ready to march again.

Heather Cox Richardson put it so well in describing these judges: whose "black robes barely cover the white robes".
