Why would a unit of distance based on the size of the Earths orbit and a Babylonian system of angle measurement be used a long time ago in a Galaxy, far, far away?

When they were talking about the wrong unit of measure, "What time is it? Pineapple," and other examples. It reminded me of the 1985 Twilight Zone episode "Wordplay."
I want to adapt that time unit. At least Star Wars later retconned why Han used parsec.
