Chuck is absolutely perfect for Startalk. The dude is always on a roll with everything. NDT Is also a King is his own right. Their combo is literally unmatched on this planet.
Chuck’s killin’ it.
Chuck had some great zingers this time
18 miles per second is insanity, space is crazy man.
Tyson and Chuck you guys make science fun to learn about and you even found a way to make it funny too live it 😂
If you could use a gravity assist to slingshot anywhere in the solar system, where would you go? And what planet would you bounce off of?
You gain the orbital speed of the planet. That blew me away.
7:14 “So you gain..” “THE ORBITAL SPEED!” “THE ORBITAL SPEED!”
Lord Chucks timing is perfect
In the late 1960's at the University of Utah, my Dynamics Professor was Dr. Gary Flandro. Very low key, but excellent teacher. with each week more challenging homework problems each building on learnings along the way. Near the end of the quarter we were assigned a problem for the mathematical formula of a bird walking on the rotor blade of a helicopter doing a roll while ascending. We complained so he gave us some "hints" and another week for the solution. At the end of the class, some were still complaining and he gave us a real world example of when the alignment of the planets would occur for a planet gravity assist on a satellite to accelerate it. He explained that with 3 planets in the solution that the time to destination was dramatically reduced. This became known as the Grand Tour and was applied to Voyager 1 & 2. Professor Flandro being very low key, never told us that he discovered the launch window while on a summer residency at I think JPL when he was in graduate school. Many years later, when the Voyagers were launched did I learn that the Grand Tour was his discovery. He cared more about his student's learning than bragging about his. Best teacher I ever had.
