We've Never Seen Before What Hawaii Just Did...

Kilauea Volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii, part of largest hotspot plumes on Earth, is erupting with its 48th episode today June 1st 2026. This comes after a magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck the west side of the Big Island a couple weeks earlier, noticeably altering the inflation rate and recharge duration of Kilauea afterwards. Additionally this is the 48th eruptive episode in the Halema'uma'u crater, beating the 47 fountaining episode record set from 1983-86 with the Pu‘u‘ō‘ō eruptions, but nearly twice as fast.
