If I’m honest if I were personally involved in this case I’d be relieved. It makes it 100% sure he’s convicted, doesn’t turn your child’s death into even more of a circus and stops people from seeing their autopsy/murder scene photos and pulling their lives apart, and lets you start to move past this with absolute guarantees rather than more appeals. There was also no guarantee of a conviction on any count if he went to trial, the families are mad now but what if he was found innocent? This removed that possibility, no matter how small of a chance that might have been. It is also really grossing me out though the amount of people who are so upset about it not going to trial because now they don’t get to fulfil their own entertainment/curiosity like this is some kind of TV show…

Life in prison with no appeals seems worse than the death penalty.
I gasped so hard I choked a little. I am so shocked. I thought for SURE he would want to go to trial.
While I’m sad for the victim’s families possibly getting the closer they wanted by going to trial, I am relieved for the surviving witnesses not having to relive this nightmare on the stand.
I’m actually relieved that this is the outcome. The society will be safe from him and not have to spend ridiculous amounts of money on the appeal process the coming 10+ years. PS, see EDB your old supervisor is right yet again the schedule is going to work for all trials this autumn
I get that the Goncalves family has been the most public and the most vocal figures, but people should remember that they are only 1 victim’s family. It seems that the Mogens and Chapins are for the deal, and the Kernodles and Goncalves are against it. Ultimately it doesn’t matter, but I think that maybe people forget that the death penalty is hardly a quick process, it hangs over victims heads for decades before actually happening.
I am pleased for the families and surviving victims that this will not be going to trial. He will never see the light of day again.
I feel bad for the victims' families who believe that the only justice is the DP, I do get where they are coming from and I honestly can't imagine how hard any of this would be for those folks. But speaking as an outsider, I feel like all of this is worth it if those poor roommates don't have to testify in court and potentially open themselves up to even more hatred and ridicule from the general public than they already get. Its always bothered me that those two victims have been crapped upon from great heights by so many people who wrongly assumed that they knew what they would do in such a horrific situation. And he will never share the air of honest people again, AND the families don't have to endure lengthy appeals processes waiting for an execution that honestly may never come. Seems like a win, win, win to me. Even though the law nerd in me was REALLY looking forward to this trial.
