I am SO happy the judge called out the public manipulation attempts and explained how the court system works. Get em, Judge!!!
No matter how the families feel, losing a jury trial due to police or attorney error would be much worse than locking him away for life and no death penalty.
I just want to say thank you for talking about the surviving victims. Of all of the coverage on this plea I have seen, you are the only one to even mention this important aspect of the prosecution’s decision to make this deal. 💜
I feel the plea deal is the most humane approach. The survivors can move on without the threat of an appeal prolonging their suffering.
Chilling to hear him answer so calmly and matter of fact to committing these crimes. May the family be able to heal the best they can and may these beautiful souls rest in peace.
While I’m beyond heartbroken for the families and completely understand their frustrations regarding the plea deal, those calls to the judge were a big no-no! Selfishly, I was looking forward to seeing this judge and these lawyers in action during trial. However, this plea deal allows justice to be served without further traumatizing the families and witnesses.
I looked up idaho law and the last time they executed someone was 2012. That man was on death row for 30 yrs.
I didn't realise how chilling and impactful it would be hearing him admit to these crimes
Given the leak and the harm the trial would cause to the survivors, I think this was the best decision
I am glad that the surviving roommates do not have to have their survivors' guilt played out in court, nor do they have to undergo cross-examination, particularly for the one girl who saw the perpetrator. I understand where families are coming from, of course, but I can see how the plea deal is a beneficial straightforward option to conviction. The little shoulder pat from the other prosecutor when Prosecutor Thompson sat down. Oof.
