Taxes in the US sound very complicated. Here in Norway the Norwegian equivalent to the IRS does our taxes for us. You just go online and look, if it looks good you do nothing. I have not lifted a finger regarding my taxes in years
So, what’s messed up is when YOU make a mistake with the IRS, YOU, pay interest. If the IRS makes a mistake, they just give you the refund with no interest for the amount of time it took you you get your money back.
Yes, I work for an accounting firm. The IRS does this all the time. And also you may receive a letter from one office and receive a letter from a different. The different IRS offices do not communicate with each other. You may have cleared your account with another and then get notices you owe from another. Nightmare.
Inheritance/wills/trusts can get SUPER messy at any moment. For years my farther was the executor of my grandparents will because he’s “financially responsible”, would deal with these things the way my grandpa would’ve. My uncle, my dads younger brother, got remarried to a strange lady in 2012 who happened to be a bail bondsman. Within a a year of them getting married, she made a fuss and told my grandparents to make both of them co execs and they did. Than she tried to get my mom to conspire with her to get my grandma to sign a document making my mom and “aunt” the medical executives but under false pretenses aka telling grandma it’s this kind of document when it’s actually a different kind. My mom immediately told grandma, but still. After grandpa died my “aunt” tried to take over in every aspect. His will, funeral, bank issues, ect. My grandma was smart enough to tell my dad to do all the banking stuff for and with her. My point is, you could think for years it’ll be easy with no issues, but one little change in family can shake the whole ground. My brother and I are completely in sync when it comes to our parents. 50/50 spouses have no say. His husband would get an earful from me if he ever said anything, and my husband would get an earful from my brother. Our parents are our parents and unless solicited, your advice or suggestions are not warranted.
CPA here: IRS revenue agent and IRS revenue officer perform two different tasks. Agents are usually on the audits and officers are the collection agency essentially. Also, the IRS is famous for improper application or non-application of payments. We deal with those notice letters ALL the time. All the time.
Love the pregnancy/birth advice about setting boundaries and protecting your energy. Wish someone said this to me 25 yrs ago when I started my family. 🙂
So the IRS should owe the Chrisleys' full refunds (plus interest figured just like late payments to the IRS), payment for all their legal fees, and a highly publicized apology.
On the Chrisley's case, @ or around 1:22 The IRS agent and the prosecution according to several paragraphs back DID know there was no money owed, yet they did not share that info with the defense before or during trial. The agent and prosecution chose to state they did owe money to paint them in a bad light, and then waited until judgement was rendered before providing the information that the Chrisleys did not owe any money, and in fact had over paid their taxes for those years and actually owed the Chrisleys a large refund!!!
Can the Chrisleys get court fees and compensation cos the irs messed up? How stressful!!
I used to work at sbux, the reason it changes based on how you order is because when you can use the button "sweet cream cold brew" its one price, when you order it as "cold brew" then add the sweet cream, most additions to drinks at sbux cost extra like adding extra flavors, different milks or more esspresso shots. If you're not sure what will be extra just ask the baristas they can tell you the options 😊
