Jimmy’s Exclusive Interview w/ “Irregular Army” Author Matt Kennard

Author and journalist Matt Kennard joins Jimmy to discuss his book Irregular Army, which details how the US military relaxed recruitment standards during the war on terror, allowing thousands of neo-Nazis, gang members, and convicted criminals to enlist. Commanders often tolerated extremists in the ranks, he says, because they believed they made "better warriors" as Kennard notes that many of these individuals returned to the US with combat training to start a "racial holy war." He argues that the policies were bipartisan, continuing under Obama after Bush, and that the problem has become institutionalized under Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, who has extremist tattoos and has declared that the military will no longer investigate extremism. Jimmy pushes back on Kennard's framing, arguing that the only major post-9/11 domestic terror events cited—the Oklahoma City bombing and January 6th—were likely FBI false flag operations, and that the real danger is the establishment using these incidents to smear the MAGA movement and turn Americans against their neighbors instead of uniting against the elites who actually run the country. Kennard agrees that Trump is not an outlier but the "bastard child of the war on terror," that the two parties are "the same party" serving permanent government interests, and that the US operates a "managed democracy" where voting offers no real choice.
