Description

Salena Zito was four feet from President Trump when the shots rang out in Butler, PA, nearly one year ago. She was immediately thrown to the ground by security and caught up in the ensuing chaos. I was watching on TV when it happened and recognized the lady face down on the ground by her signature boots, as did many others. A lot has happened since then to the country, to the President, to Pennsylvania, and to Salena. For starters, she’s become the only member of the media that Trump doesn’t affirmatively despise. After the attempt on his life, he called Salena seven times to check in. What they discussed is fascinating. She’s since written a book called Butler, which is also fascinating. It’s out this week, and I can’t recommend it enough. And now, they’re making a movie about her. That’s right—the unassuming grandmother who befriended me several years ago long after making a name for herself as a journalist who always reported from “The Middle of Somewhere,” is going to be the subject of a major motion picture. What a country! I’m so proud of what Salena has accomplished, and so happy to have her back on the pod. If there’s a more honest, more authentic journalist working today, I don’t know who that would be. She’s also a hell of a lot of fun to talk to, as this conversation will once again proves. I see Zito as a teacher like my mom was for 30 plus years, but not a teacher with either side agenda. Right or wrong, she lets you decide! True reporter and that’s a compliment

Hi Mike, I am writing to you on behalf of my 81 year old dad who is a proud trades/blue collar worker who still works 2-3 days a month because he can and because he loves it. I believe someone needs to tell my dad’s story and my hope is you or someone you know would enjoy telling my dad’s very American story. He is a Marine Vietnam veteran. He is still married to his high school sweetheart, 61 years. My parents raised two boys and paid for us to attend college. We are both entrepreneurs today. My dad is a proud American and a proud Trump supporter. There is much more to his story but I hope this is enough to get your attention. Thank you for your time and thank you for the podcast. The Way I Heard It is one of my favs.

I just got Butler yesterday & am so excited to finish it. This was a great conversation, especially at this disturbing time. We're still here folks. All is well. We'll be fine & so will President Trump.

What a treat to listen to an interview with a REAL journalist that reports the facts/details! She has the complete background for the subject matter to share. Thanks Mike.

The fact that we are not still talking about the assassination attempt shows just how powerful the mainstream media still is.
