Haptic feedback on positive actions in an mobile app is also a great way to improve ux, especially on Apple devices.
Just my 2 cents: while design is something that leaves a lasting remark on consumer mind. If you are building a new startup, never worry about iconic design and animation. The first rule of startup is to launch the most minimalist version that gets the job done. Let consumer reach out to you and tell how much they love your product. and only then start thinking about design iteration

While doing my PhD I worked on a paper which discussed Persuasive Design (synonymous to emotional design). That is a key factor and it has positives in certain contexts and can be manipulative in other contexts! The paper's title "An analysis of the persuasive technology design features that support behavioural change"
Duolingo feels addictive due to clever dark patterns. Yu-kai Chou breaks this down in a clear and structured way
A few counter examples: amazon, ebay, craigslist - massively successful businesses with zero design considerations, only usability, correctness, and efficiency.
Always assume that you may never get a second chance to make a first impression.
Emotional design seems so obvious, but it gets missed so often. Thanks for articulating your ideas so clearly, your content is always extremely interesting and actionable.
