We've been doing evolutionary algorithms for decades. There was always one last missing piece - set of *reasonable* heuristics that would kick the search process out of local minima. LLMs turned out to be exactly this one piece we needed to complete the puzzle.

To my eyes, all the indications are there that the exponential curve is already hitting. The self improvement being discussed here, looking at the rapid IQ progression with LLMs in the last six months. I think this technology is being under hyped by the world at large.
