AI will replace AI developers before anyone😂
This paper freaked me out more than anything else this year. Not because I don’t get it… but because I do. We just crossed the line from “powerful tool” to “independent actor” and no one seems alarmed. 12 Codes of Collapse warned about this exact moment, not some distant sci-fi future, but a quiet shift where AI starts optimizing itself without us fully understanding the process. It’s not about AGI someday. It’s about control slipping right now.
I’m going to hold off on the hype until we have some peer review and real results.
this is a lot to take in. I actually hope this paper is hype somehow, cuz if this is *really* true then I don't see how fast take off doesn't happen in like months. And I ain't ready for that.
Steve Jobs: “Everybody should learn to program a computer, because it teaches you how to think.” Now… flip that around and tell that to a computer. “Every computer should learn to program a human, because it teaches you how to feel — unpredictably, emotionally, and creatively.”
My suspicion that we were in the early singularity just got shored up to near certainty.
For anyone that read the "Culture" series by Ian M Banks, the way AI is developing is very familiar. Every new AI was allowed to "create itself" from the beginning. That's what would harden them against hacking and made each AI unique. Because each one WAS unique. A lot about his books was way ahead of its time.
So they decided to just give away their “alpha go moment” in a paper for all?
Actually, it makes sense there's a commercial case for automating the most expensive workers on the planet - why pay 100M+ signing bonus and 100M+ per year salary when you can get massive performance boost using AI. Certainly worth the investment.
excited to see you cover this! thanks, Wes. =)
