Things Going Thru Walls? Let's Discuss the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics
The 2025 Nobel Prize: Demonstrating Quantum Tunneling and Energy Quantization in Circuits
Discover why John Clark, Michael Deet, and John Martinez earned the 2025 Nobel Prize by demonstrating that famously bizarre quantum rules—like passing through walls—apply to large-scale electrical circuits. Learn how this breakthrough underpins modern quantum computing and specialized medical devices.
Short Summary
- Laureates confirmed quantum tunneling (particle passing through a seemingly impenetrable barrier) occurs in larger systems using superconducting electrical circuits.
- The experiments verified energy quantization in macroscopic circuits, effectively treating the complex circuit as a single, engineered artificial atom.
- This work directly established the foundational principles necessary for developing solid-state qubits and the current generation of high-performance quantum computers.
This presentation explains the significance of the 2025 discovery by detailing how these scientists successfully merged the quantum world with classical reality using controlled electrical phenomena.

instructions unclear... im partially inside the wall now.
As a squash player for the last 45 years, I can confirm that the ball always bounces back from the wall. But sometimes it will pass straight through the strings of the racquet.
This experiment always reminds me of the phrase in Heinlein's The cat who walks through walls that states "all kittens can walk through walls until they learn that they're not supposed to be doing that".
I've been passing through walls using technology called a door.
Wow!! I'm glad you stopped me!! I was braced up, ready to sprint.
If all matter is just energy, then it makes sense within a properly tuned system that one frequency can serve as a carrier wave for another. Dryers have been tuning socks in just such a manner for a long time.
Here's a neat thing to know: The portal gun in the Portal games is a quantum tunneling device, not a "true" portal gun. You can see the official name for the device in the trailers about the fictional company.
Essentially superfluid going through its container is also example of macroscopic quantum tunneling too
Finally: Real life wall clip bug
This confirms that thr Cooper pair featured in Interstellar, Joseph and Murphy Cooper, were able to communicate from across the Event Horizon to complete Professor Brand's solution through quantum tunneling, and not Gravity/Love as wrongly advertised.
