Hi Anton, I don't know how you do it every day! Researching new papers and references every day, creating your comments/analysis, and producing a high quality video. Amazing!

I live in Vancouver island Canada and the Aurora in 2024 is unlike anything I’ve seen in my 44 years. Purple and white light that seemed to emanating from 50 feet over my head.

i was in the far north a couple of decades ago and witnessed the aurora so strong that i could hear it. some of the sounds was like a long tight wire being plucked. i never knew they made sounds

You bring up a big point for Lunar and Martian colonies: First objective needs to be "Dig In!". Then mess with the above ground things.

The sun is so nice most of the time, and even in this it pulled its punch. We got a nice star.

I just learned that this storm was named after a coworker at the small company I work for who passed away not long before the storm occurred. She worked out of a different office half-way across the country and we never met in person, though we exchanged a few emails.

The old theory for protecting HVPC was to power down all the lines along with all the equipment at the substations, in depth analysis after the Quebec however showed that those HVPC lines and equipment that were still operational had less damage. While my knowledge is slightly out of date, we were following a policy of partially powering up all lines and substations to provide a better level of protection, which is one of the reasons we see less damage. I would be grateful if anyone that works in the power industry could update this as I no longer have any contacts in that sector.

Fun fact.. It caused autonomous mining trucks to shut down in Australia. There is a delay in our data base for "geomagnetic storm".
