Direct Evidence of a Dark Matter Chunk 2300 Light Years Away From Us
First Direct Detection of a Dark Matter Subhalo in the Milky Way
Scientists achieved the first direct detection of a dark matter clump within our Milky Way using precision pulsar timing, shifting dark matter from theoretical inference to a physically mapped object.
Short Summary
- The detection validates core predictions of the Lambda CDM cosmological model regarding galactic structure.
- Researchers isolated a massive gravitational structure using correlated timing deviations in binary pulsars, ruling out conventional astrophysical sources.
- This breakthrough establishes pulsar timing as a powerful, direct method for mapping dark matter clumps independent of gravitational lensing.
This video covers exciting new research confirming the existence of dark matter structures inside our galaxy. The presentation details how scientists leveraged the extreme regularity of pulsars to pinpoint a massive, invisible gravitational anomaly, offering the first physical evidence of a dark matter subhalo near Earth. This technique opens a new roadmap for studying dark matter composition.

If I recall, this paper has some issues in that the results are completely dependent on one specific pulsar only and if that one is removed from the dataset the entire hypothesis falls apart, and there are some questions about the measurement of that pulsar as well.
Wonderful as always Anton. Thank you. 🤙😸😄
I’ve got quit watching this channel right before bed. It gets me thinking and then I have trouble sleeping. Thank you Anton.
Slight error near the start where Anton says dark matter makes stars spin, he's actually referring to how fast stars on the outer edges of agalaxy orbit the galaxies centre.
Dark matter sounds like a pothole in spacetime.
This is interesting. Thank you, Anton. Meanwhile I have some dark matter on the floor next to me, begging me to feed it.
Wow, that's the biggest fairy dust ever "found" so far, good work Anton 👍
