Why call it an ugly scar on the landscape? It’s actually pretty astonishing to see a seam in the planets continental shelf’s.
This morning I experienced my very first California Earthquake Tremor. My apartment shook and trembled but nothing fell over. It lasted just under a minute. There was an Earthquake on The opposite side of The Golden Gate Bridge. Near Oakland.
Currently studying to become a Mechanical Engineer, one of the thought projects we had to do was to create a plan for an underwater bridge in the San Francisco Bay. Idealistically a cool concept, realistically a nightmarish disaster waiting to take place given the proximity to this major fault line.
The last time i was scared of an earthquake was years ago when my dad was still alive. I still remember my dad smiling and giving me a small giggle by the way I jumped up in the air and ran to him when it happened. It felt like a bomb explosion. My dad was not scared. 🥲. 🥹. I miss him.
I live in Hollister, California, and we always have earthquakes every year. We have three fault lines. Pinnacles fault line, Calaveras fault line and San Andras fault line. All three of them are very active
You guys should do a show about the Madrid fault line and others in Illinois.
I was six years old when the 8.0 magnitude earthquake, hit Mexico city in 1985 which lasted over three minutes with intermittent devastating aftershocks. I still remember the last shock came around dinner time. So much destruction.
Was staying in Mammoth Mountain around 1984 and was woken by what seemed like every dog in the area howling and barking, I thought WTH is up? Heard like an explosion and then the cabin I was in started shaking pretty hard. It was an earthquake! Then settled down and an aftershock sometime later. Those animals knew it was coming , they felt it , their senses are exceptional.
I live in Santa Monica California (Los Angeles County) used to live in San Francisco. My house is new and built to current earthquake codes for California and the office I work in has been retrofitted to current California earthquake codes. I have a storm shelter with a month’s worth of food and supplies in the case of an actual earthquake emergency.
I’m watching this sitting in my living room, 50 miles from the fault line 🙂
