Updated FERMI Paradox: advanced civilizations replaced by their pets.
i can't afford to see the doctor or eat three meals a day, there's no way I'm having kids anytime soon
I told my cat what you said and then we just laughed about it.
My wife and I have been saving hard and are thinking about trying for our 3rd kitten.
People frown if I put a child in a crate or make them poop in the yard.
You nailed it Anton. People don't just have a dog, they have two dogs so the first one doesn't get lonely.
So this is why big companies started buying out veterinarians and pet shops
I'm too busy creating shareholder value to raise and educate another worker for the shareholders.
Anton explains the replacement theory.
I think another aspect of this is that people for the first time are realising that they actually have a choice in whether they have children or not, and so, many are realising that they just don't want children. By this I mean that people typically just go through the motions, the expected steps in life, without really thinking about what they actually want. Higher education, buy the house, the somewhat expensive car, get married, have children, etc. Ticking them off like a checklist. Personally I just never had the desire for children, and this is quite common.
